Can websites recognize me without cookies?
I've been trying to reduce how much websites track me, so I regularly clear cookies and use private browsing for sites where I don't need to stay logged in. But I've read that websites can still recognize returning visitors through things like screen resolution, installed fonts and graphics hardware. Does that mean clearing cookies barely makes a difference? What can I actually do to make my browser harder to identify without constantly changing devices?

It's easy to get into the habit of clearing everything after every session and still wonder why the same sites seem to recognize you. At some point I'd stop treating cookies as the whole problem and look at what the browser itself is revealing. Use a browser with anti-fingerprinting protection, block third-party trackers and avoid constantly changing random settings. A fairly ordinary, consistent setup can be less distinctive than one with lots of unusual tweaks.

Cookies are easy enough to wipe, but a fingerprint gets built again as soon as the page loads. That's why the browser can still look familiar even after you've cleared everything. Read more about browser fingerprint spoofing here: https://gologin.com/blog/browser-fingerprint-spoofing-how-to-prevent-tracking/ . It explains which browser details are usually collected and how spoofing changes them. That makes it easier to understand what a site may still recognize after the cookies are gone.
